Instead of a new world order, how about a divine order? Often referred to as “The New Age Bible,” few works have done as much to popularize the New Age movement or modern mysticism as “A Course in Miracles”. The book was written in 1976 by Helen Schucman, but it really took off after it was discussed in 1992 by Marianne Williamson on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The book is written as a curriculum for those who wish to achieve spiritual transformation. Schucman said the text, which is very densely written and difficult to always interpret without a workbook or group, was dictated to her word for word by Jesus. She said that on October 21, 1965, an “inner voice” told her: “This is a Course in Miracles, please take notes.”

Among the main principles of “A Course in Miracles” is the idea that everything involving space, time, and perception is an illusion. God is the only truth and reality, and all of life as we perceive it is one life, dreaming of separation and fragmentation. In this space-time dream, perception is fueled by what it originated from: separation, judgment, and attack. The thought that keeps this process going is the ego. The book advises us to move from a state of mindlessness to a state of mindfulness, since our “right mind” is outside time-space and cannot be harmed by wordly attacks.

According to the book, seeing “the face of Christ” in all living things is the way to ultimately awaken from the dream and return to the eternity of God. Ultimately, this means the end of individuality and the egoic self. The workbook that comes with the course says that it will help recondition the mind from “condemnation out of fear” to “forgiveness out of love.” It defines “miracle” as the conscious choice to make that mental shift out of fear into love.
